It’s one of The Bounce Bedding Company’s most frequently asked questions: Which duvet is best for me? We know there’s a lot of duvets available on our website to buy and we often get people saying they can get overwhelmed with the amount of choice. With this guide, you’ll be less in the dark when it comes to which duvet to purchase; whether you’re looking to stay cool at night or if you have allergies – we’ve got the answers for you.
THE TOG RATING EXPLAINED
The first thing to decide is what Tog you need. A common misconception is that the Tog rating is an indication of the quality or thickness of a duvet, which isn’t quite true. The Tog rating is a universal measurement that refers to the effectiveness of a materials thermal insulation, meaning the higher the tog the warmer the duvet. It’s crucial to get this right as your body temperature has a big impact on the quality of sleep you get. Becoming too hot or too cold at night is one of the most common causes of disturbed sleep.
Did you know?
The Tog rating scale was developed by the Shirley Institute in Manchester, the same city as The Bounce Bedding Company office!
Typically speaking you would want a lower Tog for summer (4.5), then a slightly higher Tog for Spring and Autumn (10.5) and then higher again for winter (13.5). An-all seasons duvet is a convenient way to save space, consisting of a light 4.5 Tog duvet and a warmer 9.0 Tog duvet. These are used on their own for summer (4.5) and spring & autumn (9.0) which then can be fastened together to make a warm 13.5 Tog duvet. You also need to consider how well insulated and heated your house is in the winter months as you may not need to go as high as a 13.5 tog duvet.

Especially with children, where bedding may get dirty even quicker, this is an ideal solution and makes life a little easier. The Junior Reversible Coverless Duvet Set comes with a single duvet and a pillowcase and is available in two colour combos. But the best thing about the kids duvet is that, because it’s reversible, it has two colours! One set has a lovely rose mist pink colour on one side and grey on the other, whilst the other duvet is night sky blue and grey. Each night, your kid gets to choose what colour they want to sleep under!
FILLINGS
Once you’ve worked out which Tog you’re going to go for, the next decision is what filling. Fibre filled? Natural? Everyone is different and we all have individual preferences when it comes to what we want from a duvet and so the question you need to ask is ‘which filling is best for me?’
Fibre filled
Key benefits of synthetics:
- Ideal for allergy sufferers
- Easy to wash at home
- Ideal for those who prefer a lighter duvet
- Offers technical benefits such as added breathability
At The Bounce Bedding Company, we take pride in our products being innovative and we constantly challenge ourselves to be the first to market with new technologies. Our duvets are no different; the majority of our synthetic duvets contain our signature filling: Smartfil®, the lightest filling available whilst providing the same level of warmth.
Our duvets have more layers than cheaper, conventional alternatives. This means more trapped air for greater warmth, a great loft for a luxurious ‘wrapped up’ feeling, and a beautiful drape to your bedding. Our duvet fibres will also maintain their silky soft feel and never deteriorate even after repeated washing.

Did you know?
Are you someone who struggles to regulate your body temperature at night? In a recent poll, we discovered that nearly two-thirds of our customers prioritise temperature management when buying a duvet. If this is important to you too, look no further than our Breathe duvet which contains Modal in its filling. Modal is a manmade fibre that is derived from wood pulp and is sourced from well-managed, self-sustaining forests. It is a cellulosic fibre link cotton, allowing fibres to absorb and disperse body heat – keeping you cool at night and providing total comfort when you sleep.
Naturals
Key benefits of naturals:
- Highly breathable
- Long life span
- Ideal for those who prefer a heavier duvet
A general assumption is that fibre filled duvets are better than those with natural fillings. Here at The Bounce Bedding Company believe that naturals deserve more credit. Duvets with natural fillings are generally more breathable (which means they are more suitable for year round use) and they tend to last longer than fibre filled duvets (due to the resilience of the feather and down when it comes to washing). Typically natural duvets are heavier than synthetics so if you like some weight in your duvet, a natural one would be the way to go.
